Yearbook writing

In the GROOVE Summer Chrono

I chose to use this spread for the captions I wrote. This was the first spread that I was assigned so I made sure I put my all into it (just like the others). This spread is important to me because it is one of the first pages that someone will see when they open the yearbook and I wanted to make sure that this spread made the reader want to read the rest of the book. The attention to details in covering facts and emotions is sop important.

In the GROOVE First school year chrono

This spread showcases captions that I wrote. It focused on the first few weeks of school. We got to interview the ninth grade dean as a class for a press conference project and I had the idea that since she was new it would be great to use in our chronological coverage. In addition, I knew that it wasn’t just about blocks of text. I posted a survey to create an alternative story form to show how students were reacting to new school rules.

In the GROOVE Pep Rally

I really enjoyed this page because the pep rally is a very fun event at Huron and doing the interviews were very intriguing. This spread is being used for the captions and the headlines. I came up with the headlines myself by thinking about the pep rally and spirit week and figuring out what would fit the tone of the page. This spread is important to me because I had the most fun working on it and I also used this page to help mentor some of the first year yearbook students.

In the GROOVE Sports

This spread is being used for the captions and headlines as well. One of my favorite things to do in yearbook is take sports photos and write captions for them. I’ve learned that when you use really good pictures of someone, they tend to give you longer and better captions. It’s all about telling a story through photos and captions.

Breaking Through Colophon 2022

I chose this spread because I worked on it all by myself. It was my first time working on the colophon and I got a lot of support from my adviser and other editors. This project is important to me because it was one of the last pages in the book and I wanted to make a good last impression of the book.

Breaking Through Chrono

I worked on the article for Huron’s River Ratatouille contest. I chose this because I enjoyed learning through reporting about Huron’s cooking contest and what kind of food they made and what ingredients they had to use.

Breaking Through Friendsgiving

I put a lot of time into this page and worked hard to complete it. I chose this because all of the copy was written by me. The article showcases my ability to report and write on club coverage.

Rewritten

This was one of the first spreads I completed on my own. I created one of the only pie charts in the book. But what I am proud of is you can see the growth I have had since I was a freshman in my writing.
